Secondary
Based on or Mercy Values, Secondary at St Joseph’s School provides each student with a safe and nurturing environment for each student to grow physically, socially, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. Importantly, it provides students with the learning experiences to develop the 21st Century skills that are essential to support them as lifelong learners, valued employees, innovators and engaged global citizens.
Middle School (Year 7 – 9)
The Middle School at St Joseph’s School provides students with the opportunity to successfully transition from Primary and develop the knowledge and skills they need to transition successfully into their Senior Schooling and beyond.
Year 7 transitions our existing St Joseph’s students and also welcomes new students to our school. Our students experience a variety of new learning environments, routines, knowledge and ways of thinking. We understand that building a solid academic and pastoral foundations is a crucial at this time of transition to the Middle School.
Middle School students study a broad range of core and elective subjects. These are outlined in the Middle School Handbook below.
Senior School (Year 10 – 12)
Senior schooling helps give students the skills for success in work and life in the future.
During the Senior years students have the option to choose either a tertiary or vocational pathway. Each pathway allows students to complete a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). For those looking to gain tertiary entrance, students have the opportunity to attain an Overall Position (OP) or Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) – 2020 onwards.
Staff, students and parents work together towards achieving academic excellence, via a balanced curriculum, an expert teacher in every classroom and thorough administrative practices.
Students on exiting school should be morally and socially responsible, have employability and the capacity to participate in life, and be prepared for further learning and future employment.
During Year 10 all students engage in making Senior Secondary subject related choices through a personalised Senior Education Training Plan (SET Plan). This plan identifies the pathway that our students will engage in during Year 11 and 12. This process is supported by staff, and engages parents in this key decision making process.
St Joseph's School now offers a broad range of General and Applied QCAA subjects and VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses as well as access to a range of SBA's (School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships). The school partners with a number of training providers including the Queensland College of Wine Tourism, University of Queensland Skills, The College of Health and Fitness, Aviation Australia and Blue Dog Training and uses a variety of facilties including the Granite Belt & Border Trade Training Centre to provide our VET courses. Subject offerings and more detail about Senior schooling can be found in the Senior School Handbook below. Subjects and courses for Year 11 2022 are detailed in this document.
