School Based Apprenticeships & VET
Currently St Joseph’s School has nearly 30 students, in a variety of fields, engaging in the School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SATs) program, with regional and interstate employers.
Students undertaking School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeships:
- attend work part-time (usually one day per week and maybe for some days during the school holidays),
- attend school part-time (but are still considered full-time students), or
- complete the off-the-job-training component of their apprenticeship/traineeship during school time.
School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeships allow students to train and do paid work in a chosen traineeship or apprenticeship while still at school completing the Senior Phase of Learning.
Specific training related to School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeships may occur at the worksite, at school, TAFE or a private training college. A School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship represents one of the student’s Senior subjects.
Completion of a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship leads to the completion of a Vocational Education and Training Certificate qualification.
