ASSISTANT TO THE PRINCIPAL PRIMARY
Last week we recognised and celebrated the achievements of the students across the school at our annual Awards Night. Congratulations are extended to all those Primary students who received an award. Much thought has gone into deciding which students should receive an award and naturally there would have been some disappointed people across Years 3 - 6. However, I hope that everyone enjoyed the evening that celebrated our school and all that has been achieved as a community this year.
Awards Night does not mark the end of the school year. Indeed, there is still such a lot on the calendar for Term 4 and many more opportunities for each and every student to make their mark and accomplish great things. The teachers are currently reassessing each student's reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension and already we are seeing expected and above expected growth from some individuals. Before the end of this term I will share with parents our achievement against our school targets in this area of the curriculum. We will also be using two online assessments to measure the growth of each student across the academic year in reading and maths. We will be looking for an effect size of at least 0.4 which equates to one year's growth for one year's teaching. This data will then be used to plan the learning opportunities in 2020.
Other things happening this term include the Year 6 Granite Belt Lecturette Competition, a Year 5 Leadership Day to be held at St Mary's School in Warwick, a campus disco, the Prep Ball, open mornings for the Prep students of 2020 and the highly anticipated Year 6 trip to Wet n Wild. The next few weeks will go very quickly and I hope that everyone will take the opportunity to finish the school year well.
Finally, congratulations to those students who represented the Primary Campus at the recent Maths Team Challenge in Warwick. All three teams finished within the top 8 of 23 teams, with one team consisting of Aryanna Davie, Magnolia Mills, Lily Hyslop and Vayda Heads finishing first! Well done to everyone and thanks to Ms Thompson, Mrs Charlton and the parents who accompanied the teams to the competition.
