DEPUTY PRINCIPAL (ACTING)

Brown, Matthew.jpg

Welcome back to all students and parents for the final Term of 2019. The first few weeks of the Term have gone by quickly, with students working towards the many significant events that still lie ahead for the final weeks of the year.

The St Joseph’s School Awards Night was held last Thursday evening where we recognised a large number of our students who have achieved high academic standards. The evening celebrated the diversity of talents and the pursuit of knowledge that enables our students to reach their full potential. Each year, there is also much anticipation about the election of student leaders. Students are provided with ample opportunities to nominate for leadership positions under a transparent process, with the student voice respected through a preferential voting process. Leadership positions for 2020 were announced at the Awards Night, and I take this opportunity to congratulate James Humble and Bridgette Kay who were elected Student Leaders for 2020, and give thanks to our 2019 Student leaders, along with the Year 12 cohort, for their wonderful work this year.

Recently, six Year 12 students also celebrated the completion of their school-based apprenticeship/ traineeship by attending a luncheon at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism. The lunch acknowledged and thanked the host employers for providing our students with the opportunity to work as a paid employee while gaining an accredited qualification. The lunch was also a fitting recognition of the student’s capacity to cope with the school/work balance and celebrate their hard work and dedication through this excellent vocational program.

With such a short term ahead it is important that students have in place a study program and ensure they are aware of their due dates for assessment. Updated assessment calendars were emailed to parents and students earlier in the Term.

I wish all students a fantastic Term Four and success in their studies as we close in on the Christmas holidays.
