PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kendall_OAM_Andrew.jpg

On 7, 8 and 9 February, we celebrated our 150-year anniversary of Mercy education. We thank Bishop Ken Howell for his presence throughout the celebrations. Bishop Ken together with Father Nathan Webb and the recently ordained Reverend BJ Perrett (St Joey’s School Captain 2017) conducted a wonderful Welcome Mass, which precedent our Student Leader Induction Ceremony for the Year 12 Student Leaders and our Year 6 Primary Leaders.

This 150-year celebration was made even more special due to the attendance of Sr Maureen Keenan rsm, past principal of St Joseph’s School, and Sister Peta Goldberg rsm, Congregation Leader of Sisters of Mercy Brisbane. Their presence was a poignant reminder of the school's rich history and enduring legacy. Dr. Patrick Coughlan, Executive Director of Toowoomba Catholic Schools, also joined the festivities, delivering heartfelt words of congratulations.

The 150 Dinner Dance was an enjoyable experience for all. Past principal Ms Pam Sullivan gave a special dinner address to the gathering, and the school was honoured to have her, together with other past principals, Sister Maureen Keenan rsm, Mr Tom Staples and Mr Bob Knight, join me, to cut the cake celebrating the occasion.

As part of our 150 celebrations, a history room showcasing past memorabilia, photos, uniforms, trophies and more was opened. Located in the old Convent, this space is available for all to visit.

My thanks to the staff, students, past students, past staff, families and friends who made these events a success.

I would also like to congratulate all students and staff for a good start to 2025. The leadership of our Year 12s has been particularly pleasing. I am also thankful to the P&F Association for putting on a nice Welcome BBQ in Week 2. I have no doubt the school is in good hands as we progress into our next 150 years.

God Bless
