ASSISTANT TO THE PRINCIPAL PRIMARY & TEACHING & LEARNING

This newsletter brings to a conclusion Term 1, 2024 but it almost seems impossible that we are completing the term today. Such a lot has happened on the Primary Campus - and indeed, across the school - in the last three weeks:

-Year 3 and Year 5 students have participated in NAPLAN tests across Week 8 and Week 9

-We have celebrated St Joseph’s Day as a school.

-Year 11 and 12 students led games for the first House Day of 2024.

-Everyone had their best smiles ready for the camera for School Photos.

-The first hamburger day of the year was held in aid of raising funds for Stage 2 of the Nature Play project.

-The first sporting event of the year - the Cross Country carnival - has taken place.

-The Term was brought to a conclusion today with the Way of the Cross liturgy.

From the teachers’ perspective, we have also recently completed parent-teacher consultations as well as a series of professional learning meetings with one of our Education Officers from Toowoomba Catholic Schools, focusing particularly on the teaching of reading. Last week and this, I had the pleasure of being in some of the early years' classrooms to see first hand their progress with the phonics approach to reading. It is wonderful to see how these young people have such a passion for learning. Of course, this is replicated across each of the classroom each and every day and across learning areas.

Congratulations to the following students who have made it through the qualifying stage to represent the school at the Darling Downs event of the Readers’ Cup to be held on 11 June:

Issy Cavallaro
Bellarose Gordon
Ned Robinson
Imogen Staley

Finally, on behalf of the staff on the Primary Campus, I wish all our families a safe, restful and holy holiday.  We look forward to seeing everyone again when school resumes on 16 April.

With God's blessings
