Netball

The Laura Geitz Cup held on Sunday 17th March was an electrifying showcase of netball talent from the Darling Downs and South West Queensland's finest schools. With fierce competition and thrilling matches, the tournament captivated spectators throughout the weekend.

Honoring the remarkable career of local netball icon Laura Geitz, who achieved great success with the Queensland Firebirds and the Australian Diamonds, the event served as a fitting tribute to her legacy.

Twenty-five teams, representing schools from various regions including Roma, Toogoolawah, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe, and across the Darling Downs, took to the court to vie for victory and display their skills.

Geitz herself graced the event with her presence, adding to the excitement and significance of the occasion. Her participation underscored the importance of dedication, sportsmanship, and striving for excellence in the sport of netball.

Ultimately, Fairholme College emerged as the champions, showcasing their talent and determination to secure the top spot. Geitz had the privilege of presenting awards to both the winning schools and standout players, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance and undoubtedly inspiring future generations of netball enthusiasts.

Here’s a look at three of our St Joseph's players that shone on court :

Charlotte Zanatta (St Joseph’s Stanthorpe): Charlotte normally plays as a centre but was moved into defence for the finals. She expertly read the opposition’s play down court and produced some spectacular turnovers.

Ava Scalia (St Joseph’s Stanthorpe): Ava was super versatile playing at both ends of the court as a goal-shooter and goal-keeper. She held her space well and read plays to great effect.

Chloe Searle (St Joseph’s Stanthorpe): Played with heaps of energy in the midcourt. Feed the ball superbly into the circle, intercepted passes, and her shooting was on point when placed in goal-attack.

Congratulations and well done to all girls who competed.
