Prayer in Our Daily Lives
Prayer in Catholic schools is both invitational and provides a range of opportunities for participants to respond to the wonder and mystery of the world around us. Through prayer experiences and opportunities students develop a sense that prayer is not just a recitation but an encounter through that gives heart to prayer. Providing these meaningful opportunities is an important aspect for times when we gather together and part of the Religious Education curriculum.
Throughout their learning years, students are offered opportunities to learn about prayer, but also to experience the many types of prayer, from traditional to meditative prayer, silence and stillness. In my work with Year 6, students have been learning about the origins and meaning of the Our Father, as well as journaling and meditating using the Examen. From Preps learning the sign of the cross, to our Year 12 students praying a “Prayer Before Exams” prayer continues to be to offer a means of personal transformation and wisdom.
