Congratulations to Mrs Megan Mahoney who has been named as the Toowoomba recipient of the Spirit of Catholic Education Award for her outstanding contribution to Catholic schools over many years.
We are blessed to have had Megan at St Joseph’s School for 33 years. Megan’s story is detailed below. Megan will travel to Townsville with her husband, Mick on July 25 to receive her award, along with the other 5 recipients from around Queensland, during the launch of Catholic Education Week.
At the launch, the Queensland recipient of the Spirit of Catholic Education will be announced.
Congratulations Megan !!
Growing up in a Catholic family, attending Catholic schools and choosing to become an educator and leader of Catholic education – Megan’s faith is strong and her dedication to educating students and developing staff in the Catholic tradition over more than 30 years has been unwavering. Coupling the rigour of quality pedagogy and academic success with the Mercy values and charism of St Joseph’s School Stanthorpe, Megan has brought to life, what it means to be Catholic in a contemporary world.
The school’s Religious Education program has been reimagined through the Illuminate program, under Megan’s leadership. Staff are now more confident and skilled to deliver and students are more engaged in service programs, Masses, Liturgies and assemblies as they share through their voice what it means to live a life based on Catholic values and beliefs.
It is also Megan’s commitment to building connections between people and place that have strengthened the links between parish and school. Megan’s focus is on building a better understanding of and living Mercy values every day.
Megan is a great example of the Spirit of being Catholic and of Catholic education and we thank her for the joy she brings and the change she is making in our world.
