An incredibly busy term continues to roll on and the last two weeks have been no exception. Catholic Education week was a wonderful celebration of the great opportunities here at St Joseph’s School and it was fantastic to hear the stories from past students about their time at our school. I am sure the students enjoyed the stories of youth rebellion from times gone past, but to me, in listening to the stories, the one theme that stood out from all the past students was their pride in the school. All of them spoke about how proud they were of St Joseph’s School and the treasured memories they have from the opportunities bestowed upon them in their time here. I hope that all our current students speak of our wonderful school in the same way in the years to come.

The Year 5 & 6 transition program commenced in Week 4, with Mr David Fleming’s class participating in a three-day program on the secondary campus. Students participated in a variety of subjects, such as Tech Studies, Digital Technology (robotics), Home Economics, Art, Drama, PE, Agriculture, Maths and Science. The students rotated through classrooms and teachers to get a feel for what secondary schooling is like, as well as sharing time with our fantastic Year 7 cohort as part of normal Pastoral Care lessons. We look forward to Mrs Nardia Stanford’s and Mrs Linda Charlton’s groups visiting in Week 5 and 7.

In Week 3, parent teacher consultations provided an opportunity for parents, teachers and students to reflect on academic progress and collaborate to establish goals and discuss methods to promote improvement in the upcoming units and assessment instruments. I extend my thanks to the secondary teachers for facilitating these positive and informative consultations.

Finally, I congratulate all the students for a positive start to Term 3. They have been very busy and it is great to see so many students involved in all the wonderful opportunities on offer, from debating, science and maths club to Red Lion soccer, the UQ science day in Clifton and volunteering to assist with the Open Day. Keep up the great work!
