PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week, a time to celebrate Catholic education, its many achievements and substantial contribution to the broader community.
The theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Many Voices. One Spirit.’, acknowledges both the vast diversity of our school community, and the one spirit which unites this diversity in purpose and mission.
Our liturgy on Tuesday 30th July was a perfect opportunity to hear from some of the voices of students who have previously attended the school. From stories about the Walkathon to Storm King Dam, to marble challenges and the influence of the Mercy nuns, the school took great delight in hearing the tales of days past at St Joseph’s School from Mr Michael Bathersby, Mr Greg Thouard and Mrs Francesca Moxham. It was wonderful to have these former students share their love of the school.

Our staff also enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Mass with staff from schools around the diocese at the Bishop’s In-service Day in Toowoomba on Friday 2nd August.
Congratulations to Angelina Sims
Congratulations to our Principal’s Assistant, Mrs Angelina Sims, who won the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Excellence Award for Excellence in Education Support (Administration, Finance and Facilities Support) last week. Angie was presented her award by Dr Pat Coughlan, TCS Executive Director, and Bishop Robert McGuckin in a gala dinner in Toowoomba. It is a well-deserved honour for a wonderful member of our staff and the Stanthorpe community.
Staff Anniversaries
Congratulations to Mrs Johanna Campbell and Mrs Megan Mahoney who recently celebrated 30 years at St Joseph’s School, and Mr Jim Armstrong and Mrs Mary McLucas for 35 years in Catholic Education.
Fijian Visits
Next week we welcome staff and students from Magodro Secondary School in Fiji. Fifteen Year 10-12 students will accompany their Principal, Mrs Alumita Ciwanacagi, Vice-Principal, Mr Isoa Ciwanacagi, and two other teachers for their 12-day visit. During their stay they will spend time in classes, visit local attractions in Stanthorpe, Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and get to know what life is like in Australia. Thanks to the families that are helping accommodate them and Rotary Club for their support of the tour. We are all looking forward to sharing our culture and goodwill, while also learning a little about their home life.
