They were never the same again…
This Sunday the Easter season draws to a close as we celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. The disciples had gathered together to celebrate the Jewish feast of Pentecost (also know as the Feast of Weeks, celebrated 50 days after Passover) and it was here, in this moment, that they received the gift of the Holy Spirit. And they were never the same again.
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
(Acts 2:1-4)
Through the Holy Spirit we are all called to conversion just as the disciples were, to continue the work of Christ in our global church, across all races and cultures. The Holy Spirit is alive and active in the world calling us into the future to break new ground and bring God’s presence to all we encounter.
With God's blessings,
