TEACHING & LEARNING - YEAR 7
The first day of the school year saw a number of new students join across P-12, with a significant number starting their secondary schooling in Year 7.
For the first time this year, the initial day for these students incorporated some time being spent exploring the theme of what it means to be an effective learner at St Joseph's, with those who were here in Year 6 helping to upskill the new students in the language and practices associated with Visible Learning. Some comments from the students at the end of the sessions included:
For the first time this year, the initial day for these students incorporated some time being spent exploring the theme of what it means to be an effective learner at St Joseph's, with those who were here in Year 6 helping to upskill the new students in the language and practices associated with Visible Learning. Some comments from the students at the end of the sessions included:
- Learning is not easy but if we make mistakes, we learn from that and try again.
- learning is not about being the best but about being the best version of you.
- Learning is not something that everyone is good at so we can help each other to improve in areas that are difficult. This will be different for everyone.
- Learning is challenging so I want to work hard because this is what I am here for.
- Learning can be long and hard but keep on pushing.
- If you put your mind to it, you can always improve.
- Learning is key so it can guide more options for love or work or anything else.
- Learning is hard so I try to push myself more.
- Learning can be hard so we need to be a jungle tiger not a zoo tiger because if I am a jungle tiger I will be more effective.
- Your brain is a muscle that can be trained to help you be smarter.
- You have to be organised and set yourself up for success.
- Learning is not something you can do instantly. It takes time, patience and hard work.
- You are in charge of your learning and it's your choice to grow or to stay and say "that's good enough".
- Learning is challenging so I need to use resilience and persistence while working.
This work will be ongoing with this cohort and all students from P - 12 during the coming year.
