Secondary Swimming Carnival

Thursday 2 February saw the 2023 sporting calendar get underway with the running of the annual school swimming carnival. A beautiful summer day greeted us all, helping to see record numbers enter the pool to compete.

In amongst the competitiveness from a large number of students the chaotic fun of the mentor class raft race once again proved a hit amongst students and teachers.

In a turn of events the teachers for the first time in many years were defeated by the students in the staff v students relay. No doubt some reflection will take place over the next 12 months and a more committed training program adhered to by the teachers to reclaim the sardine shield in 2024.

After a number of years in 2^nd position McAuley rose from the ashes to claim the champion house trophy. Not to be outdone though, Davadi’s enthusiastic attitude throughout the day saw them awarded the spirit trophy.

I’d like to personally congratulate all students and the house captains in particular for their efforts in making the day a success, the teaching staff for allowing the day to run so smoothly and finally to Gail and Michael Smail at the Stanthorpe Swimming Pool for providing a first class facility for our school.

Congratulations to Year 10 student, Katie-Lee Jansink who has been selected in the Queensland Schools Triathlon Team to compete in the National Championships in Devonport from 13 to 16 March.
