Week 1 of this term, saw the Year 11 Rural Operations students attend the first of 3 practical camps at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus.

The students were able to apply their knowledge from class to a variety of tasks over the week. Competencies were ticked off as the students drove tractors, weighed and vaccinated pigs, milked dairy cattle, mustered and separated trial dairy cattle (there was even a calf born from one of the cows) and weighing some big healthy Droughtmaster cows at UQ’s Darbalara Farm.

The next practical camp will take place in November. By the time the next camp takes place, the students will have almost completed their Certificate II in Rural Operations.
